Our Work

The Ministry of Women’s Affairs policy programme is guided by the Action Plan for New Zealand Women which gives us a clear direction and measurable goals to achieve.

The Action Plan for New Zealand Women is a whole-of-government approach to improve women’s lives in the workplace, home, community and as members of society. It was launched by the Minister of Women’s Affairs on 8 March 2004.

Work has been prioritised in three areas:

  • economic sustainability – improving women’s ability to independently provide for themselves and their families
  • work-life balance – helping women achieve a greater balance between paid work and life outside of work
  • well-being – improving health and social outcomes for women.
