About the Ministry

The Ministry of Women’s Affairs is government's lead advisor on issues specific to New Zealand women. It is the smallest core government department in New Zealand with a staff of less than 40 people and an annual budget of approximately $4.7 million.

The Ministry is primarily a policy agency. It does not provide services directly to the public, is not an advocacy organisation, and does not have an international development role.

The Ministry’s work for 2010-2013 is guided by government's goal and priorities for New Zealand women.

Women having real choices and using their strengths to maximise social and economic success.

Priorities

Our priorities for the next three years – 2010-2013 – are:

• Leadership: Women have the opportunity to develop and use their skills and talents
• Violence: Women are healthy, empowered, resilient and safe
• Employment: Women fully participating in work, family and community, across their life course.
